Matriculation

The School of Integrated Learning and Development requires that all candidates admitted to certificate and degree programs complete prescribed course work per the program catalog.

Some programs in the School of Integrated Learning and Development are designed as a lock-step curriculum, which is to be completed in the order specified by the program.

All candidates in programs in the School of Integrated Learning and Development are expected to complete program requirements associated with their certificate or degree within four years from the point of admission. Any exceptions to this policy must be made via a written petition presented, approved, and filed by the Dean of the School or his/her designee.

Any candidate who withdraws from the program for a period of six consecutive months must be readmitted under the most current university catalog and is subject to adhering to program requirements as listed in the catalog at the time of readmission.

Program Readmission Requirement

Candidates who have previously withdrawn from a program of study in the School of Integrated Learning and Development and who wish to be readmitted to the program are welcome to return. The following conditions for readmission will be applied by the School:

• Program administrators reserve the right to require that candidates audit or repeat some courses that may have already been completed if the administrator determines that the material is significantly different than when the candidate first took the course.

• In the event the candidate has been withdrawn for a period of six months or more, the candidate must satisfy all program admission and clinical experience requirements as published in the IWU catalog at the time of their readmission to the program.

• Courses more than five years old will need to be repeated unless waived by the program administrator through academic petition.

• Candidates need to also be aware of any changes in state licensure requirements and reciprocity.

Program Gateways Requirement

Certificate and degree programs in the School of Integrated Learning and Development - Division of Education are part of a larger Educator Preparation Provider/Program within the University that is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). In addition, these programs are recognized by program accreditors, Specialized Professional Associations, and state departments of education. Subsequently, all programs must adhere to the requirements established by the University’s Educator Preparation Provider/Program.

The Educator Preparation Provider/Program requires that candidate data be collected, evaluated, and reported at three program gateways. These gateways are as follows:

• Admission

• Mid-Program Review

• Program Completion

Candidates are required to satisfactorily pass the admission, mid-program review, and program completion gateways based upon established criteria set forth by each certificate and/or degree program. Program gateway requirements and decision rules determining successful program gateway completion are published as a part of the candidate’s program materials and are referenced throughout the program.

Candidates will be evaluated by admission requirements, mid-program review, and program completion gateways set forth by School faculty and staff.

Candidates who meet one of the conditions listed below will come under review by department faculty and may be required to complete a Candidate Improvement Plan (CIP) in order to continue in a program or be re-enrolled in the program.

• A candidate fails to meet the “Criterion for Success” on a key assessment (look for the syllabi and/or assignment description to state that failure to meet the Criterion for Success may result in a CIP).

• University faculty, clinical faculty, or university staff notify the Department Chair of a professional dispositional concern for an enrolled candidate either in the academic or clinical setting.

• A candidate has not received a sufficient grade on an education course requiring a B- or C and/or has been administratively withdrawn from a program due to course or gateway failure (this condition only applies to bachelor's degree level and above.)

If a CIP is written for a candidate, they will be notified by the CIP Coordinator and/or Department Chair. The Department Chair will communicate with the candidate to provide clarification regarding the CIP. Once the Department Chair has confirmed that the candidate has successfully completed the CIP or failed to complete the CIP, the candidate will be notified of the results.

If an enrolled candidate fails to complete a CIP, they may be administratively withdrawn from the program. If a candidate is administratively withdrawn due to failure to complete a CIP, a hold will be placed on the candidate’s account.

If an administratively withdrawn candidate has been issued a CIP, a hold will be placed on their account until the issuing Department Chair confirms completion of the CIP.
