Program Description

The Undergraduate Certificate in Quality and Patient Safety is designed to prepare health professionals to lead organizational efforts to improve and monitor quality metrics, improve safety for both patients and staff, and drive change in the changing healthcare environment. Students will recognize the importance of team processes to both quality and safety efforts, learn to apply quality improvement tools, utilize data to drive improvement, connect patient safety practices and processes, and use change management practice to guide improvement efforts. Virtuous business practices will be utilized to guide quality and patient safety practices.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

Recognize the role of team processes in quality and patient safety.
Apply effective quality improvement tools to identified areas of need within healthcare organizations.
Analyze available data to drive change within healthcare organizations.
Relate practices and processes that may be used to improve safety in the healthcare environment.
Illustrate the use of change management practices to guide improvement in healthcare organizations.
Apply virtuous business practices to quality and patient safety practices in healthcare.

Program Requirements

Admissions Requirements for this Program

Accepted as a regular degree seeking student or as an unclassified student.
Unclassified student requires proof of high school graduation or GED certification.

Graduation Requirements for this Program

Completion of 12 credit hours.
Minimum grade of “C” in each course.
Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive certificate.
