Program Description

The School of Teacher Education is committed to developing preservice teachers as decision-makers who cultivate excellence in understanding learners, content and curricular design, instructional practice, contextualized decision-making, and professional identity, imitating Christ in each classroom decision in order to create redemptive educational experiences for all learners.

All programs within the School of Teacher Education (STE) follow the Teacher as Decision Maker Conceptual Framework.?*The framework includes 5 Domains, each deeply rooted in faith, aligned to standards, and structured in a way that, like IWU World Changing Aims, ensures knowledge (what candidates must know to teach successfully), performance (the skills teachers must possess to teach successfully), and dispositions (the beliefs and moral attributes candidates must possess to teach successfully).? While the STE framework is not recognized by national accrediting bodies, the framework exemplifies the distinctive Christian identity of STE programs and provides curricular structure.
